First day of school letter. Kindergarten!

Today you start school! Your impact, love & kindness is about to reach further than you've ever known or experienced.
I am terrified of this new season. Terrified of letting you go. Terrified of nasty people. Terrified that I can't be there to protect you.

At the same time I'm excited. Excited for what you'll learn. Excited for who you'll meet. Excited to see your world expand. Excited because you are growing into the most beautiful, entertaining, energetic and lovely little girl.

I know you'll take this in your stride. "Mummy, you and daddy don't need to walk me in, I know the way, I can walk in myself". You might become slightly overwhelmed, but I know you have this! You are the bravest I know.
Lexi, here is what I want you to remember at school; kindness is key. Be kind, even when others are unkind, and they will be. Others might not know love like you do. Others leave unsafe environments to return to them. They might not have had breakfast. They might not have a safe place to sleep or grow. You are blessed with safety, love, food and an abundance of life... Not everyone has this privilege. So be kind, make school easier for people. Be their safe place. Be kind because everyone deserves it! "People won't remember what you said, but they'll remember how you made them feel"
At the same time, don't let people walk all over you. You're allowed to be proud of who you are. Treat yourself with respect and expect others to treat you in the same. If they don't, be kind, but be tough. Just as you give love, expect love in return. You're allowed to and should defend yourself.

Learn... even when you don't like it. Learn because you are in a position and have a mind that can learn! Others long for this privilege so please don't take it for granted.
Be kind and respectful to your teachers. They have a life outside of school. So make it easier for them. Be someone they are excited to see.
And remember that learning to be loyal, loving, kind, strong, encouraging, empathetic and grateful are just as important as learning academically. Don't value one over the other, both will be vital in your future.
